Globex is the world's leading electronic trading system, with global access to the most diverse Range of futures and options across all asset classes. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) designed it and debuted it in 1992.
Electronic trading is made possible by CME Group technology, which gives customers throughout the world essentially 24-hour access to global markets. CME Group provides Market participants with a number of connection options. More than 150 nations and overseas territories have access to the platform.
In 1987, the development of a new electronic system was started with the objective of improving futures trading at the CME. Throughout the following five years, the system underwent several modifications and improvements, culminating in the first electronic futures trading on the new system in 1992. Globex was built on Reuters technology when it originally started. Because it was the first worldwide electronic trading system to offer off-hours trading in exchange contracts, the system was dubbed a Pre/Post Market Trading system from the start.
To be eligible for CME Globex, users must have a CME Group clearing firm connection, a CME Group-certified trading application, and connectivity to CME Globex. The CME and many other major commodities exchanges, including Commodity Exchange, Inc. (COMEX), the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), and the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), are all owned by CME Group.
