The IPL 2022 retention list has been released, with the majority of teams retaining four players, the maximum number permitted by the BCCI. The players who have been retained for each franchise are listed below.
KKR retained four players in total, out of which two are overseas players and two are local players. The two overseas players are Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, while two local players are Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer.

was spent by KKR to retain these four players with a balanced purse of Rs. 48 crore.

to keep these players with a balance purse of Rs. 48 crore.
In their team, DC gave a superb performance in IPL 2021, retained four players Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw & Anrich Nortje, by spending Rs. 39 crore
with a balance purse of Rs. 47.5 crore.
Punjab Kings retained two players, Mayank Agarwal & Arshdeep Singh, by Offering Rs. 16 Cr
with a balance purse of Rs. 72 crore.
CSK retained four Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad by offering Rs. 42 crore
with a balance purse of Rs. 48 crore.
RR retained three players, Sanju Samson, Jos Butter & Yashasvi Jaiswal, by offering Rs. 28 crore
with a balance of Rs. 62 crore.
RCB retained three players, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell & Mohammed Siraj, with Rs. 33 crore
with a balance purse of Rs. 57 crore.
SRH retained three players, Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad & Umran Malik, by offering Rs. 22 crore
with a balance purse of Rs. 68 crore.

The IPL governing body allows a maximum of 4 players to be retained. According to the rules, the team can consist of two Indian players and two foreign players, OR three Indian players and one foreign player. Aside from that, teams can choose to keep any number of players they want and can also release all of the players they desire. Moreover, the teams have the flexibility to retain any number of players and release them if they wish to.
