The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme is an initiative by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The KCC ensures to provide loan to the farmers for farming and purchasing vehicles. The main objective of the KCC is to meet the comprehensive credit requirements of the agricultural sector.

The scheme offers a short-term Credit Limit for crops and term loans. Kisan Credit Cardholders can get personal accident insurance up to Rs. 50,000 for death & permanent disability, along with Rs. 25000 cover for other risks. The interest rate in this scheme is as low as 2%.

Top Banks Offering Kisan Credit Card Interest Rate

The KCC scheme is set by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development NABARD, which has been followed by the major banks in India.

State Bank of India

SBI is one of the largest issuers of Kisan Credit Card. The banks charge a low-interest rate as low as 2% p.a., on loans up to Rs. 3 lakh based on the crop cultivation and cropping pattern. The maximum loan tenure is about 5 years and you can get insurance coverage of the personal accident insurance scheme, asset insurance and crop insurance.

HDFC Bank

HDFC bank offers the Kisan Credit Card scheme at the interest rate of 9% p.a., and the maximum credit limit offered is Rs. 3 lakh. The bank also offers cheque book with the credit limit of Rs. 25000. In case, farmers suffer from crop failure, then they can get an extension of up to 4 years or more.

Axis Bank

Axis Bank offers KCC charging an interest rate of 8.55% p.a. Farmers can meet their agricultural requirements and can get a loan up to Rs. 250 lakh. The maximum tenure of the loan is of 5 years and you can avail the Insurance Coverage up to 50,000.

Bank of India

Bank of India offers KCC up to 25% of the farmers estimated Income, but not exceeding Rs. 50,000. The maximum tenure of the loan is of 5 years and you cannot avail any insurance coverage.

ICICI Kisan Credit Card

ICICI Bank gives you the Facility of a hassle free and convenient Kisan Credit Card scheme to meet day to day farming requirements. The bank offers KCC interest rate in accordance with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines. The loan tenure of this scheme is of 5 years.

How to Apply for Kisan Credit Card Online?

Farmers can apply for Kisan Credit Card online by following the below-mentioned steps:

  • Visit your bank’s website (where you have an account) and check for Kisan Credit Card Section
  • Download & print the application form
  • Fill out the application form
  • Submit the application and necessary documents at your bank’s branch
  • The banker will share important information about the KCC
  • Once the loan amount is approved, the card will be dispatched
  • The applicant can start using the credit card once they receive KCC

Eligibility for Kisan Credit Card

There is an eligibility criterion for KCC:

  • Farmers those who are individuals/ joint borrowers of the Land and involved in farming
  • A person who is an owner cum cultivator
  • Self-help groups or joint liability groups, including tenant farmers or sharecroppers
  • A farmer should be eligible for a production credit of Rs. 5000 or above
  • All farmers are eligible for short-term credit loan towards crop production or any allied activities as well as non-farm activities
  • A farmer should be a resident near the bank’s operational area

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi

After the Union Budget 2020, the government has taken major steps towards the institutional credit, which made more accessible to the farmers. They are merging Kisan Credit Card scheme with the Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme. Now, the beneficiaries of the Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme will able to avail the Kisan Credit Card loan for farming at a concessional rate of 4%.

How to Apply for Kisan Credit Card Under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme?

To apply for Kisan Credit card one should follow these steps:

  • A form should be filled, which is available on all commercial banks website
  • The applicant should fill all the information asked in the form - like land record, crop planted, etc.
  • Submit the form at the Common Service Centers (CSC), they are responsible for transferring the forms to the bank’s branch
