Chhattisgarh Motoryan Karadhan Rules, 1991

As per the Chhattisgarh Motoryan Karadhan Rules 1991, the transport department is accountable for the collection of the road tax from the vehicle owners. An individual can pay the road tax either monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually. The vehicle owner has to pay tax as per the rate mentioned in the tax rules.

Chhattisgarh Time Limit for Road Tax

The Vahan tax is imposed under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and should be paid at the time of registration. The following are the Chhattisgarh road tax-

  1. In case an individual is paying quarterly payment, then it has to be paid within fifteen days from the commencement of the quarterly period.
  2. In case a taxpayer is paying monthly Vahan tax, then it should be paid within ten days from the commencement of the month.

Tax Rate on Two Wheelers

The two-wheelers Tax Rate in Chhattisgarh is imposed on the old and new vehicle.

The road tax for Motorcycle is 4% of the vehicle cost. The tax for the old vehicle is highlighted below in the table:

Road Tax on Four Wheelers

Road tax in Chhattisgarh is imposed on both old and new vehicles.

The four-wheelers road tax for new vehicles are as follows:

Cars above Rs. 5 lakh 6% of the vehicle cost

Road tax for old vehicles are as follows-

Pay Online Chhattisgarh Road Tax

To make road tax online payment for Chhattisgarh state, follow the below mentioned steps:

  • Visit the official website of the Transport Department of Chhatisgarh state
  • Click on Online Tax or Fees payment option. A login page will appear on the screen, If you are an existing user put the credentials and login, if you're a new user, then click on new user. A tax user creation page will appear on the screen
  • Fill the details such as:
    • Username
    • Login ID
    • Email ID
    • Address
    • Phone Number
    • Registered RTO details
    • Phone Number
    • Bank Details
  • After filling all these details click on save button. You will be redirected to the login page, enter the login details and proceed for the road tax online payment.
  • Select the desired option quarterly, monthly from the payment
  • Enter the tax payment and put the vehicle registration number and click on submit button
  • Now, make payment by choosing your bank and click on Make Payment
  • You will receive a payment successful message and a Receipt will be generated keep that receipt safe for the future use.

Penalty for not Paying Tax

If a taxpayer fails to pay Vahan tax within a specified time limit, then the officials may impose instant penalty with the interest.

Refund of Tax Paid

The refund of any excess tax can be paid by requesting a refund application form (Form Q) along with the important documents. After verification, an individual will receive a voucher in the Form R.

How to Pay Road Tax in Chhattisgarh?

Road tax in Chhattisgarh can be paid RTO office by filling the form with the documents. After the payment, the individual will get Challan, which should be kept for the future reference.
