IIFCL Mutual Fund was set up as an IDF or Infrastructure Debt fund through Mutual Fund route. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of IIFCL. The Mutual Fund company since its inception has launched close-ended IDF schemes twice with the objective to invest the corpus money in fixed Income instruments related to the infrastructure sector.

About IIFCL Mutual Fund

IIFCL Mutual Fund is a part of IIFCL Group, which is a Government of India Enterprise. IIFCL was incorporated in April 2006. Its main objective is to lend money for sustainable infrastructure projects. The Company gives priority to Public Private Partnership projects. Additionally, it provides funds to infrastructure-related projects by way of direct finance, subordinate debt, takeout finance, and credit enhancement.

IDFs or Infrastructure Debt Funds refer to the Mutual Fund schemes whose accumulated funds are invested in a variety of Fixed Income instruments related to the infrastructure sector. These funds can be set up either as a trust or as a company. If the IDF is set up as a trust then; it forms a Mutual Fund. These Mutual Funds issue units to the investors against their subscription money. Similarly, if the IDF is set up as a company then; it is a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC). These NBFCs issue Bonds against the subscription money received from the investors. In addition, SEBI regulates Mutual Fund IDFs while RBI regulates NBFC IDFs.

Since IIFCL is an IDF based Mutual Fund, it has issued two series of IDFs since its formation. So, let us have a look at the schemes launched by IIFCL Mutual Fund along with their aspects.

IIFCL Mutual Fund Infrastructure Debt Fund Series I

IIFCL’s IDF Series I was launched on December 31, 2013, and was open for public subscription until February 09, 2014. It is a close-ended scheme whose tenure is 10 years. During the subscription period, the fund was able to raise a corpus of INR 300 crores. The objective of the scheme is to attain Capital appreciation through investments in fixed income securities related to infrastructure sector and permitted by SEBI on a timely Basis. The scheme offers only growth option and not dividend option. This IDF Series I uses CRISIL Composite Bond Fund Index to construct its Portfolio. Moreover, IIFCL Mutual Fund Infrastructure Debt Fund Series I is rated as CARE AAA (MF-IDF) by CARE and BWR AAAidf mfs by Brickwork.

IIFCL Mutual Fund Infrastructure Debt Fund Series II

This second IDF Scheme series was launched on March 31, 2017, and was open for public subscription until April 12, 2017. During the subscription period, the fund received a corpus of INR 200 crores. IIFCL Mutual Fund Infrastructure Debt Fund Series II is also a close-ended scheme for a period of 10 years. The fund similar too Series I has only growth option and not dividend option. It also uses CRISIL Composite Bond Fund Index to construct its portfolio and is rated as BWR AAAidf mfs by Brickwork.
